'This is definitely a ford for off road vehicles only, and I'm not sure
you could get to it on anything other than a trail bike. The trail
approaching from the west is steep and muddy at first, but quickly
turns to rocks and gravel. It's too narrow for a car or Land Rover where
it leaves the "main road". There were some
tracks from trail bikes in the mud, but it's worth mentioning that the
track up the west bank runs right beside someone's house and garden so I
doubt they'd appreciate a lot of noisy visiters to the ford. As far as I could see, the trail leaving the
ford to the east was pretty similar. The ford itself looks quite tame,
about 20 feet across with a gravel bottom, and maybe 6-8 inches of
water.'

'The ford is rocky bottomed. Most of the road
is finished with a Macadam type surface (not Tarmacadam). This road was used
as the route to Holyhead until the early 1800's ! There were plans to
'turnpike' it but they came to nothing. The London -Holyhead route in those
days was via Llangollen - Corwen - Pentrefoelas - Llanrwst - Trefriw and
over the top to Abergwyngregyn - then over the sands to Beaumaris -
Llangefni & Holyhead.'
Important Info from Guy Springett:
'The lane has a
permanent TRO (traffic restriction order) on the lane and has done for
many years. The reason is that it is within the Snowdonia National Park and they do
not want 4x4s wrecking the park. I have enquired about this lane before
to both the council and park rangers and both have said "no way", with
the added "if you do and are caught you will get fined and points on
your license". It is a real pity because it is a gorgeous lane.'
